In a grim update from the Health Ministry in Gaza, officials reported on Saturday that the death toll from the ongoing conflict has reached 23,843, with 135 lives lost in the past 24 hours alone.
Approximately two-thirds of the casualties are women and children. Additionally, the number of war-wounded individuals has surpassed 60,000.
Following an Israeli airstrike in the early hours of Saturday, harrowing footage released by Gaza’s Civil Defense department depicted rescue workers navigating through the debris of a collapsed building in Gaza City using flashlights.
According to Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesperson for Civil Defense, the strike in the Daraj neighborhood claimed the lives of at least 20 people.
In a separate incident late on Friday near the southern city of Rafah, situated along the Egyptian border, at least 13 individuals, including two children, lost their lives in another Israeli airstrike.
The bodies of the victims, mainly from a displaced family originating from central Gaza, were transported to Abu Youssef al-Najjar hospital in the city, where they were witnessed by an Associated Press reporter.
As the conflict in Gaza marked its 100th day on Sunday, the World Health Organization has sounded the alarm, revealing that only 15 out of the territory’s 36 hospitals remain partially functional.
This information was disclosed by OCHA, the United Nations’ humanitarian affairs agency.
