In response to the severe shortage of medical care, around 1,000 residents of Gaza received treatment aboard the French warship “Dixmude,” stationed in the Mediterranean Sea.
The French warship “Dixmude,” equipped with medical facilities, operating rooms, and a medical team of 70 personnel, has become a crucial medical resource amid the ongoing crisis.
Captain Alexandre Blonce described the mission as “unprecedented,” highlighting the ship’s ability to provide essential medical services in an area grappling with a surge in injuries and mental health issues.
Since its deployment, nearly 120 wounded individuals have been admitted to the hospital aboard the ship, while hundreds of others have received consultations for outpatient care, including follow-up on injuries and mental health concerns.
The medical intervention by the French warship aims to address the overwhelming demand for healthcare in Gaza, where the majority of hospitals have become incapacitated due to the continuous Israeli assault.
The strategic location of the Dixmude off the coast allows for swift access to medical assistance, providing a lifeline for those in need as local healthcare facilities struggle to cope with the high number of casualties.
The ongoing Israeli attack on Gaza, coupled with the ground assault, has strained the healthcare infrastructure in the region.
Among the thirty-six hospitals in Gaza, most are no longer operational, leaving the few remaining ones overwhelmed, according to the World Health Organization.
