In a decisive statement on Sunday, the Élysée Palace announced that President Emmanuel Macron “will not tolerate any attack against France and its interests” in Niger and that Paris will respond “immediately and firmly” following demonstrations outside the French Embassy in Niamey in support of the coup leaders.

The Élysée Palace declared, “Anyone who attacks French citizens, the military, diplomats, or French establishments will face an immediate and severe response. The President of the Republic will not tolerate any assault on France and its interests.”

The French Foreign Ministry revealed that currently, there are 500 to 600 French citizens present in Niger.

The Presidency also affirmed that France supports all regional initiatives aimed at “restoring constitutional order… and the return of the elected President, Mohamed Bazoum.
