France is set to host a humanitarian conference in mid-April aimed at supporting Sudan, which is currently grappling with a severe crisis, as announced by the French Foreign Minister on Wednesday.

The conference, scheduled for April 15 in Paris, will focus on addressing the tragic humanitarian crisis in Sudan and its neighboring countries.

During a hearing at the National Assembly, Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné stated that his country will host a humanitarian conference for Sudan and the neighboring countries in Paris on April 15, to aid in resolving this tragic humanitarian crisis.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring that this crisis does not become forgotten.

The conflict that erupted in April 2023 between the Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has resulted in thousands of deaths and a humanitarian disaster.

According to United Nations figures, about 25 million people, over half of Sudan’s population, require assistance. Around 18 million individuals are facing severe food insecurity.

The ongoing battles have forced 1.6 million Sudanese to flee abroad, with many seeking refuge in neighboring Chad and Egypt.

Additionally, the clashes have displaced 6.1 million people within the country, as per a report published by the United Nations in mid-February.

The French Foreign Minister also reiterated Paris’s commitment to supporting African regional organizations in facilitating resolutions to crises.
