Citizens across various states in Sudan are eagerly anticipating the operationalization of several airports, a move aimed at easing travel burdens.
This development comes as the Civil Aviation Authority of Sudan and Sudan Airports Company intensify efforts to activate airports in key cities, including Kassala in Eastern Sudan, Dongola and Merowe in the North, and Damazin in the South.
The activation of these airports is expected to significantly alleviate the dependency on the relatively distant Port Sudan Airport for many Sudanese states.
To expedite the process, the Civil Aviation Authority is collaborating with a joint committee comprising representatives from Sudan and the Regional Office of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in the Middle East.
Their ongoing meetings, which have currently reached the 17th session, are focused on finalizing arrangements for the opening of these airports, particularly concerning the eastern airspace.
A senior official from the Civil Aviation Authority highlighted that most standard requirements have been met, and only a few steps remain before the airspace can be officially opened, according to Our Country’s Aviation.
This move is set to transform the aviation landscape in Sudan, offering more accessible and convenient travel options for residents across the nation.
The operationalization of these airports is a significant step in enhancing Sudan’s connectivity and providing relief to travelers who currently face long journeys to reach the main airport.
It also represents a major stride in the country’s infrastructure development, potentially boosting economic growth and regional integration.
As Sudan embarks on this critical phase of airport activation, the focus remains on ensuring that these facilities meet international standards for safety and efficiency.
The initiative is a reflection of Sudan’s commitment to improving its aviation sector and making travel more accessible for its citizens.
