The European Union and Libya have agreed to focus their cooperation on enhancing Libyan border management capabilities and security authorities to secure the border area, including the Ras Ajdir border crossing, in addition to providing technical and logistical support for maritime borders.
According to a statement on the European Union’s website on Tuesday, the first meeting of the Joint Committee between the Libyan side and the EU Integrated Border Assistance Mission in Libya was held today in accordance with the terms and conditions of the memorandum of understanding signed by the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the mission on October 9, 2023.
The Joint Committee supervises and coordinates cooperation between the two sides, demonstrating the mission’s commitment to supporting the capabilities of Libyan authorities responsible for border security and management, as stated in the statement.
During this meeting, the parties reviewed the activities carried out by the mission during the previous period, as well as the mission’s plan for the period from May 2024 to June 2025, aligning it with the needs of the Libyan side.
In this regard, the parties emphasized the important role of the mission in providing technical and strategic advice to Libyan authorities dealing with border management and security.
Additionally, the mission participates in providing consultations and necessary technical facilitations to Libyan authorities regarding border management and security in close coordination with the European delegation in Libya.
