During a summit in Brussels, leaders of the 27 European Union countries urged for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza.

They collectively appealed to Israel to refrain from initiating a ground operation in Rafah, located at the southernmost tip of the embattled enclave.

The joint statement issued underscored the European Council’s plea for an urgent humanitarian ceasefire, aimed at achieving a permanent cessation of hostilities and the unconditional release of all hostages, alongside the provision of humanitarian aid.

Additionally, Israel was called upon to abstain from conducting ground operations in Rafah, where a significant number of Gaza’s residents have sought refuge.

European leaders emphasized the dire plight of over a million Palestinians currently seeking safety from the conflict and access to vital humanitarian assistance.

Amidst ongoing efforts to formulate a unified response to Israel’s military offensive following Hamas’s recent attack, the European Union has heightened its call for immediate humanitarian relief.

There are mounting concerns about the looming threat of famine in Gaza, prompting leaders to demand unimpeded access for humanitarian aid to the region.

Expressing profound apprehension about the catastrophic humanitarian crisis in Gaza and its disproportionate impact on civilians, particularly children, leaders highlighted the urgent need for adequate aid to avert the imminent risk of famine.
