The European Union will provide Egypt with €87 million and new equipment in 2024 to support a migration management project launched in 2022, according to three sources familiar with the file.

The project is being implemented by the United Nations Migration Agency (IOM) and the French company Civipol, a subsidiary of the French Ministry of Interior.

The amount could increase to €110 million after the upcoming meeting of the EU-Egypt Partnership Council on January 23, the sources said.

The European Commission is also in parallel talks with Cairo to finance other projects covering a wide range of areas, including migration, subject to reform calls from the International Monetary Fund, a source close to the negotiations told CNN.

The EU-Egypt migration management project was launched in 2022 with an initial amount of €23 million, with another €115 million
