The European Council announced on Monday that it has extended the mandate for three civilian missions under its Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), while also updating one of their authorizations.

According to the Council’s statement cited by Aki News, the European Union has prolonged the term of the EU Border Assistance Mission at the Rafah Crossing, and the EU Police Mission supporting civilian police forces in Palestinian territories. Both extensions will last for one year, through June 30, 2024, with the potential for an additional year of extension.

Furthermore, the mandate for the European Union’s mission to assist in the Integrated Border Management in Libya has been renewed for two years, until June 30, 2025.

This move solidifies the European Union’s ongoing commitment to maintaining security and stability in these regions. With the extension of these mission mandates, the EU aims to foster an environment conducive to peace and prosperity, while further strengthening their diplomatic ties in the Middle East and North Africa.
