Enzo Maresca was appointed Chelsea’s head coach after he was granted a five-year deal to succeed Mauricio Pochettino at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca pointed to the “talented group of players and staff” that he would lead when he officially became the third permanent managerial appointment of the Todd Boehly era on July 1.

“To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world is a dream for any coach,” the former Manchester City U23 coach said in a statement. “It is why I am so excited by this opportunity.

He added: “I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud.”

Danny Walker, Michele De Bernardin, Marcos Alvarez, Javier Molina Caballero and Roberto Vitiello will also move with Maresca to Chelsea, who have paid Leicester a compensation package close to £10 million.

Chelsea are also placing a high priority on performing well at the inaugural expanded Club World Cup next summer.

They will receive around £40 million for playing in the tournament, but that number trebles if they win it.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho will be the new head coach of Turkish club Fenerbahce. The Portuguese coach, known for his successful stints with Porto and Inter Milan, has been without a job since being sacked by Italian Serie A side Roma in January.

Mourinho, who has also managed Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Real Madrid, announced on Fenerbahce’s X account. “Good evening Fenerbahce fans, see you tomorrow at Kadikoy (the Istanbul suburb where the club is based) and let’s start our journey together,” he posted.

The 61-year-old confirmed the move while acting
