Ahmed Refaat, a prominent Egyptian footballer, has tragically passed away at the age of 31, as confirmed by his club, Modern Sport Club. Refaat suffered a critical health episode during a league match against Ittihad of Alexandria on March 11, experiencing cardiac arrest despite receiving immediate medical attention on the field. He subsequently lapsed into unconsciousness for several days.
Initially hospitalized in Alexandria, Refaat was later transferred to Cairo for advanced treatment on March 25. Although discharged on April 11, he continued to require medical care and used a pacemaker following the incident.
Refaat’s last public appearance was on MBC Masr 2 on June 23. While the exact cause of his death has not been officially disclosed, it is suspected to be linked to the heart complications he endured earlier this year.
Refaat, who joined Future FC from Masry in October 2021, had a notable career, scoring nine goals in 29 appearances last season. He previously played for Zamalek and Enppi before making his debut with Egypt’s senior national football team in 2021, accumulating five appearances with the Pharaohs. His sudden passing has left a profound impact on the Egyptian football community and beyond.
