Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Ati headed to the Russian capital to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Cairo and Moscow with Russian officials. According to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, “the visit aims to strengthen the relations between the two countries.”
The statement explained that “the visit of Egypt’s Foreign Minister is expected to involve discussions with senior Russian officials about ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.”
Additionally, the statement noted that during the visit, “views on various issues of mutual interest will also be exchanged.” Last month, Abdel Ati discussed with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, via telephone, their perspectives on shared issues, current regional developments, and efforts to de-escalate the region to preserve its security and stability.
During the call, the Egyptian Foreign Minister affirmed Egypt’s pride in its relations with Russia and the desire to continue efforts to enhance cooperative relations in a manner that serves the interests of both countries and their friendly peoples.
The Russian Foreign Ministry, in its statement, mentioned that “during the call, views were exchanged on the evolving situation in the Middle East, with a focus on the need for an early ceasefire in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict area and a general de-escalation of the situation in the region. At the same time, the continued focus of Moscow and Cairo on coordinating actions on a full range of Middle East issues was confirmed.”
