Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriate Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, expressed deep concern to his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, regarding the increasing escalation and the expanding scope of conflict in the region, which he warned could lead to severe consequences for regional and international peace and security.
Dr. Abdelatty emphasized the urgent need to de-escalate tensions and exercise restraint to avoid sliding into a regional war that could have grave implications for the security and stability of the region’s people.
This discussion occurred during a phone call on Monday, where the ministers addressed the rapid developments in the Middle East, particularly the situations in Lebanon and Gaza. Egypt’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, reported that the ministers underscored the critical importance of halting escalation in light of events in both Lebanon and the occupied Palestinian territories.
Dr. Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s stance on the ongoing developments in Southern Lebanon, reaffirming Egypt’s total rejection of any breach of Lebanese sovereignty and stressing the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire. He highlighted the importance of empowering Lebanese institutions, especially the Lebanese army, as a stabilizing force capable of securing the country amid the current political scene.
The Egyptian minister also emphasized the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and continued Egypt’s commitment to providing all forms of political and humanitarian support to help Lebanon navigate its current crisis.
Additionally, Dr. Abdelatty addressed the presidential vacancy in Lebanon, stressing the importance of support from all parties at this critical stage to elect a president for the country.
He strongly emphasized the need to halt Israeli aggressions in Gaza and the West Bank and ensure full and unconditional access to humanitarian and medical aid to the sector.
