Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, met yesterday with Sudanese Foreign Minister Hussein Awad to reaffirm Egypt’s ongoing support for the stability and safety of Sudan and its people.
He emphasized Egypt’s commitment to assisting Sudan in overcoming the political, security, and humanitarian challenges resulting from the ongoing conflict.
Dr. Abdel Aty highlighted the goal of the Egyptian initiative, which called for a conference for Sudanese political and civil forces, held in Cairo on July 6 and 7.
The conference served as an inclusive platform for all Sudanese civil political forces. One of its main outcomes was the emphasis on preserving Sudan’s state institutions, providing humanitarian aid to Sudan and neighboring countries, and ensuring the Sudanese people’s right to lead the political process.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migration, stated that Abdel Aty provided an update on current Egyptian development projects in Sudan, such as the electrical linkage project and the reconstruction and development of Wadi Halfa Port.
He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to these projects and its fraternal and humanitarian obligation to meet any humanitarian and relief needs of the Sudanese people.
The Sudanese Minister expressed gratitude for Egypt’s continued support and services to Sudanese citizens since the crisis began, including healthcare and education services. He also praised Egyptian initiatives aimed at resolving the Sudanese crisis.
The two ministers discussed regional initiatives to address the Sudanese crisis, as well as various aspects of bilateral relations and ways to activate joint coordination mechanisms.
They also touched on several important regional issues, including the Gaza Strip crisis, Red Sea security, the situation in Libya and the Sahel region, and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) issue, reaffirming the alignment of both countries’ positions on water security.
In a related development, Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, during a phone call with Jens Plotner, the German Chancellor’s special advisor on foreign and security policy, expressed Egypt’s hope for Germany’s support in expediting the disbursement of European Union financial packages, especially in light of the economic challenges arising from escalating regional crises.
He appreciated the unique nature of Egyptian-German relations and Germany’s support for Egypt in facing these challenges.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the Ministry’s official spokesperson, noted that the German official underscored the importance of Egypt’s role in the current regional context, emphasizing that maintaining Egypt’s stability and supporting it politically, economically, and militarily is essential for regional stability.
