Egypt fully supports a Libyan-Libyan solution that would eventually lead to parliamentary elections.

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zaid said Friday that Cairo also backs efforts of Libyan institutions, as well as international moves to achieve that.

It is important to respect the role played by the Libyan institutions in this regard without any foreign interference, Abu Zaid stressed.

Egypt affirms the pivotal role of the parliamentary and state councils in Libya to conduct the presidential and legislative elections as soon as possible, the spokesman added.

Abu Zaid called on international parties to respect the will of the Libyan people and not to overlook the effort exerted by the Libyan institutions so as not to further complicate the situation. This is meant to maintain Libya’s stability and sovereignty, he noted.
It is worth noting that the Libyan crisis is going through a critical phase that increases its complexity and carries very serious security repercussions that are not limited to the Libyan borders, but rather go beyond them to the neighboring countries of Libya. That is why Egypt seeks to achieve regional stability, end conflicts, and find a political solution to engage in a political path that would get Libya out of the current crisis.
