The Egyptian Space Agency announced the successful launch of the “Egypt Sat 2” satellite. The launch took place from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in China at noon on December 4, 2023.
The satellite represents a collaborative technical and economic effort between Egypt and China. A team of engineers from the Egyptian Space Agency worked closely with Chinese experts throughout all stages of the satellite’s design and manufacturing.
The Egyptian team completed one of the satellite’s components, marking Egypt’s first domestically produced space product.
Assembly, integration, and testing of various models of the “Egypt Sat 2” satellite were conducted at the Egyptian Space Agency’s facility, which is the largest of its kind in Africa and the Middle East. This facility was established as part of the strategic partnership between Egypt and China.
The “Egypt Sat 2” satellite is set to serve the sustainable development goals of the Egyptian state. It will utilize space technology to advance vital areas such as agriculture, mineral exploration, identification of surface water sources, and studying the impacts of climate change on the environment.
This initiative not only contributes to the Egyptian economy but also reinforces Egypt’s leading role by providing training programs aimed at developing specialized skills across Africa and the Middle East and supplying them with essential space data.
