In a report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), Egypt’s trade with Germany saw an increase, reaching $2.5 billion in the first half of 2024, up from $2.4 billion during the same period in 2023—a growth of 4.2%.
The report detailed the key commodity groups exported from Egypt to Germany, which included vegetables and fruits valued at $93 million, electrical machinery and parts worth $68 million, ready-made garments at $65 million, fuels and mineral oils at $50 million, and cereals and oilseeds at $25 million.
On the import side, Egypt brought in electrical machinery and parts valued at $628 million, automobiles and tractors worth $464 million, pharmaceutical products at $206 million, plastics and articles at $111 million, and various chemical products valued at $61 million from Germany in the first half of 2024.
The report also highlighted investment figures, noting that German investments in Egypt totalled $196.4 million, a slight decrease from $199.6 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Conversely, Egyptian investments in Germany were recorded at $97.9 million, down from $131.4 million.
Additionally, remittances from Egyptians working in Germany were reported at $129.8 million for the fiscal year 2022/2023, down from $203.3 million the previous year.
Meanwhile, remittances from Germans working in Egypt rose to $15.2 million from $9.7 million.
Furthermore, the report stated that as of September 2024, Egypt’s population reached 106.8 million, while Germany’s stood at 83.2 million. The number of Egyptians residing in Germany was estimated at 128,000 by the end of 2023.
