Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi met today with French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné, in the presence of Sameh Shoukry, Egypt’s Foreign Minister.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Counselor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, stated that the meeting focused on bilateral relations between the two countries.
Minister Séjourné conveyed greetings from President Emmanuel Macron to President el-Sisi and reiterated the importance of ongoing coordination and extensive cooperation between Egypt and France.
This cooperation reflects a convergence of visions and interests, bolstering the strategic relationship between the two nations, especially in light of the existing economic collaborations in sectors such as transportation, manufacturing, and trade, among others, in addition to the historic cultural ties between the two friendly peoples.
The spokesperson also mentioned that the meeting addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip.
The efforts made by Egypt, in collaboration with various partners to halt the gunfire in the Strip and deliver humanitarian aid to end the humanitarian crisis faced by the residents of Gaza, were reviewed.
There was also an emphasis on the international community’s responsibility to implement relevant international resolutions.
On his part, the French Minister underscored France’s commitment to coordinating visions and efforts with Egypt towards a sustainable ceasefire and the exchange of detainees, in light of the two countries’ agreement on the necessity of preventing the conflict from escalating and activating the two-state solution as a basis for a comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue and the restoration of peace and stability in the Middle East.
In this context, both countries strongly rejected any actions or policies aimed at displacing Palestinians from their lands.
They also affirmed the indispensable role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in providing support to the residents of the Gaza Strip, especially under the dire humanitarian conditions they face, which necessitates the support of all international relief mechanisms.
