Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi received a phone call from his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, today, discussing the imperative to de-escalate tensions in the region, particularly in Gaza.
According to Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, the conversation also covered the bilateral relations between Egypt and France, and ways to enhance cooperation across various fields in line with the historic and strategic nature of their partnership.
During the call, the two presidents reviewed the latest efforts aimed at achieving an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, the exchange of detainees, and the facilitation of humanitarian aid.
They also discussed their countries’ efforts in providing medical services to Palestinian wounded and victims, aiming to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Additionally, the leaders discussed the recent regional escalations, warning against the potential for significant instability in the region, and emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest levels of wisdom and restraint.
Both sides agreed on the urgent need to halt the escalation on all fronts, stressing that reaching a fair and comprehensive settlement to the Palestinian issue through a two-state solution is the path towards restoring and consolidating security, peace, and stability for all peoples of the region.
