A team from the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), led by the center’s director, Ambassador Ahmed Abdel Latif, conducted a field visit to South Sudan. This visit underscores Egypt’s priority to enhance cooperation between the two nations, according to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The visit, organized in collaboration with the Egyptian Embassy in Juba, included meetings with several ministers and senior officials. Discussions focused on South Sudan’s needs in various areas related to peace and security, such as conflict resolution, peacebuilding, disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration. This is part of CCCPA’s intensified efforts to support South Sudanese institutions by building their capacities and organizing training courses for their personnel.

According to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit included meetings with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), the Head of the African Union Mission in South Sudan (AUMISS), and the Chairman of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC), as well as representatives from various international organizations operating in South Sudan. These meetings discussed ways to support peacebuilding efforts and cooperation to address the challenges facing South Sudan, through a comprehensive approach that enhances the contribution of humanitarian responses to peace and development. This approach is advocated by the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, for which the CCCPA serves as the executive secretariat.

The visit also included interactions with trainees who had previously participated in CCCPA’s courses, to assess how the skills and knowledge gained from these courses have impacted their work. The South Sudanese side expressed their appreciation for the visit of the CCCPA team, considering it a reflection of Egypt’s commitment to supporting South Sudan’s national capacities during this critical phase of implementing the revitalized peace agreement. They also expressed interest in the expertise and capabilities of the center, highlighting the potential for maximizing benefits from CCCPA’s various programs within a long-term partnership framework.
