Egypt has successfully evacuated over 27,000 foreign nationals and their families in a large-scale coordination with more than 80 embassies and international organizations operating within Egypt.
This also included the import of 130,000 tons of humanitarian aid, fuel, food supplies, medical equipment, shelter tents, and more.
Ambassador Ismail Khairat, the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Consular Affairs and Egyptians Abroad, announced the news during a meeting at the new Foreign Ministry headquarters in the administrative capital with Philippe Lalliot, the Director of the Crisis and Support Center at the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.
The meeting, attended by representatives from the French Ministry of Labor, Health, and Solidarity, as well as the French Ambassador to Cairo, Éric Chevallier, and the military attaché, focused on enhancing cooperation in relief efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip following nearly four months of ongoing Israeli military operations.
The discussion also touched upon the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the dire living conditions of its inhabitants due to Israeli obstruction of aid, cold weather, and the collapse of infrastructure and health, administrative, and environmental systems.
Ambassador Khairat praised the Egyptian-French cooperation in providing humanitarian support to the people of Gaza, highlighting the hosting of the French helicopter carrier Dixmude in the port of Arish, which offered medical services to Palestinian wounded and sick.
Philippe Lalliot commended Egypt’s pivotal role in evacuating thousands of foreign nationals and their families from the region and lauded the professionalism and dedication of the Egyptian Red Crescent and government agencies in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid.
The consultations also covered the role of UNRWA in supporting the daily needs of the Palestinian people in Gaza amidst the aggression and stressed the importance of continued international funding for the organization.
