The Egyptian Cabinet has dismissed rumors circulated via WhatsApp, which claimed that citizens were advised not to drink tap water during specific hours due to contamination by a harmful microbe.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the Cabinet assured the public that no official entity has issued such a warning and that these claims are entirely baseless.

The Holding Company for Water and Wastewater (HCWW) confirmed that drinking water across all governorates remains safe, free from harmful microbes or pollutants, and fully compliant with national health standards.

HCWW further noted that water quality is rigorously monitored through a quality control system, overseen by both the Egyptian Water Regulatory and Consumer Protection Agency (EWRA) and the Ministry of Health.

The Cabinet urged the public to rely on official sources for information and to refrain from sharing unverified claims that could cause unnecessary alarm.

Media outlets were also encouraged to verify information before dissemination to prevent the spread of misinformation.
