Egypt has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Mali in a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday.

The attacks occurred in northeastern Mali and resulted in numerous casualties and injuries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed Egypt’s deepest condolences and sympathy to the government and people of Mali, as well as to the families of the victims, in the wake of this heinous terrorist incident.

Egypt also extended its wishes for a swift recovery to the injured individuals.

In its statement, Egypt reiterated its firm condemnation of such vile terrorist acts and called for international unity in eradicating terrorism at its roots while drying up its sources of funding and support.

On Friday, the Malian armed forces published a statement on Facebook reporting a “complex Kamikaze attack” on the airport area of a Gao military base with no further details about the casualties.

A day earlier, two separate attacks targeted a ferry on the Niger River near Timbuktu as well as an army position at Bamba, also in the Gao area.

The assaults left 49 civilians and 15 soldiers dead, according to a statement by the Malian interim government.

According to the government, the attacks were carried out by suspected Al-Qaeda-linked militants.
