Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, received a phone call on Tuesday from Jean-Yves Le Drian, the French President’s special envoy to Lebanon. The discussion focused on the rapidly evolving regional developments in Lebanon, emphasizing the need for increased coordination to contain the current escalation in the region.
According to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, Abdelatty warned that the current pace of escalation demands a collective effort for swift intervention to promptly halt the ongoing hostilities in Lebanon and prevent further regional destabilization. He stressed the importance of de-escalation and urged all parties to exercise restraint.
During the conversation, Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s extensive efforts to bring about a ceasefire and resolve the Lebanese presidential vacancy. He reaffirmed Egypt’s firm stance on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon.
Abdelatty also emphasized the need to intensify the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to the Lebanese people and to strengthen national institutions, especially the Lebanese Army. He called on all parties to fully adhere to UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in all its aspects.
Additionally, the Egyptian Foreign Minister underlined that achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and ensuring full access for aid into the region, along with halting Israeli aggression in the West Bank, is crucial to prevent the region from slipping into a full-scale war.
