On Thursday, August 8, Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates, held a phone call with Burkina Faso’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabé Abroad, Mr. Karambiri Jean-Marie Traoré.

Said Ahmed Abu Zeid, the spokesperson for the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director of Public Diplomacy, reported that the call began with Badr Abdelatty extending congratulations to his Burkinabé counterpart on the occasion of Burkina Faso’s Independence Day, which was celebrated on August 5.

The discussion focused on enhancing existing cooperation and exploring new avenues that align with the current priorities of both nations.

Badr Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s commitment to supporting national capacity building and institutional development in African countries. He highlighted the role of the Egyptian Agency for Partnership for Development and scholarships offered by Egyptian universities as part of this support.

The Egyptian Foreign Minister also reiterated Egypt’s backing for Burkina Faso’s efforts to combat terrorism and transnational crime. He noted the work of the Azhar Mission in Burkina Faso, which aims to counter extremist ideologies and promote a moderate understanding of Islam.

Furthermore, Badr Abdelatty expressed Egypt’s dedication to advancing peace and security in Africa, addressing issues that are priorities for African nations, and reaffirmed Egypt’s ongoing support for its African counterparts in regional and international forums.

The conversation also covered regional and global issues of mutual interest, including developments in the Sahel and Sahara regions and the increasing security challenges faced by West African countries.
