The Danish police reported the arrest of seven individuals in December, suspected of planning a terror attack with connections to the Palestinian group Hamas, according to a statement by Danish prosecutor Anders Larsson.
The court proceedings for these individuals were conducted privately at Denmark’s Eastern High Court. The arrests, announced on December 14, were made based on suspected terror attack plans, but further details were not provided at that time.
”The investigation has provided information that, according to the police, the case has links to Hamas,” prosecutor Anders Larsson said during a custody hearing before an appeals court according to broadcaster TV2. “That information is no longer necessary to keep secret.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, also on December 14, alleged Hamas’s involvement, stating that Denmark’s security services had prevented an attack intended to harm civilians in Europe.
On his part, European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Josep Borrell expressed deep concern about the potential for Lebanon to be drawn into a broader regional conflict stemming from Israel’s ongoing war with Hamas.
Borrell emphasized the urgency of preventing a regional escalation in the Middle East and issued a warning to Israel, adding that “nobody will win from a regional conflict.”
