Despite diplomatic efforts, clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) persisted on Tuesday in various areas of the capital, Khartoum.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Sudanese army launched airstrikes on RSF positions in the east of the Nile and Al-Mamoura in the eastern part of Khartoum. Smoke was seen rising from the Armored Corps area in the Al-Azhari neighborhood to the south of the capital. In response, the RSF fired artillery shells at the general command headquarters and the Signal Corps of the army in the central and northern regions of Khartoum.

The recent military confrontations followed a meeting held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, on Monday between RSF commander Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, known as “Hemedti,” and the Coordination of the Civilian Democratic Forces, led by former Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok.

During the Addis Ababa meeting, Rasha Awad, the spokesperson for Takadom, stated that discussions centered around crucial issues such as the humanitarian crisis, civilian protection, and the delivery of humanitarian aid. Awad revealed that efforts were made to reach an agreement to halt hostilities, particularly in relation to the humanitarian crisis in the country.

Awad informed journalists that “Takadom” presented a roadmap aimed at ending the conflict and restoring peace through a democratic civil transition in Sudan. The roadmap, she explained, is based on the coordination’s vision of political arrangements for the post-war phase. Additionally, the spokesperson noted that the Coordination of “Takadom” extended an invitation to the Sudanese army commander, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, for a meeting and is currently awaiting his response.

Highlighting the overarching objective of ending the war, Awad emphasized that ongoing hostilities pose a severe threat to national unity and the social fabric, particularly in the face of persistent racial mobilization. The coordination’s efforts are driven by a commitment to alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people and establishing conditions for a stable and unified future.
