Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba recently revealed that he held discussions with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, regarding the prospects for peace in the ongoing crisis that has persisted for two years.
Kuleba shared details of their conversation on the social media platform “X,” highlighting their meeting on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
The discussions focused on bilateral relations, trade, and the imperative of restoring just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
Kuleba elaborated on Ukraine’s plans to convene a global peace summit, with Switzerland agreeing to assist in its organization.
Both ministers underscored the importance of maintaining Ukrainian-Chinese communications across all levels and continuing their dialogue.
China has participated in at least one of the preparatory meetings for the anticipated summit.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry, in a statement, conveyed Wang’s commitment to continue advocating for a political solution through dialogue.
Wang emphasized China’s stance of not exacerbating the conflict, exploiting situations for gain, or selling lethal weapons in conflict zones or to conflicting parties.
Ukraine is keen on strengthening ties with Beijing and persuading China to endorse Kyiv’s ten-point peace plan, which primarily calls for the withdrawal of Russian forces.
Last year, China proposed its peace plan, advocating for a ceasefire, initiation of negotiations, and lifting sanctions imposed on Russia.
