Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, the Sudanese Sovereignty Council President, emphasized that peace in Sudan cannot be achieved until the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) withdraw from the occupied areas and move to accepted territories.
He stated, “There will be no political process until the war in the country ends.”
Addressing a gathering of soldiers in Merowe, Northern State, Al-Burhan criticized those who accuse resistance members of igniting the war, stating that “the war was ignited by those who carried weapons, killed innocent people, and displaced citizens from their homes.”
He reiterated that the army would continue fighting and advancing towards El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur State.
Earlier, the commander of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo “Hemetti,” stated that his forces would continue defending themselves on all fronts.
The Rapid Support Forces have besieged El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, amid indications of an imminent attack on the only city remaining outside their control in the volatile region.
War erupted in Sudan a year ago between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in various parts of the country, with both sides vying for control of vital locations, including the Republican Palace, the headquarters of the Armed Forces, the RSF headquarters, and several military and civilian airports.
