Austria Imposes Fines on Parents of Disruptive Students

Austria’s Lower Austria region has decided to impose stricter financial penalties on parents whose children exhibit disruptive behavior in schools.

The authorities have increased fines to €2,500, a significant rise from the previous €440.

This move targets parents who encourage their children, particularly those from newly arrived immigrant families, to defy teachers and school rules, as well as resist integration.

The Governor of Lower Austria emphasized the importance of collaboration with schools and the rejection of extremist tendencies among students.

Schools are viewed as environments that require clear rules for interaction, which must be adhered to ensure a successful educational process.

The increased penalties aim to foster a school atmosphere beneficial to all students, particularly in a society that relies on the integration of immigrants.

The policy underscores that young migrants have ample opportunities for success in Austria, provided they avoid extremist influences and show respect for educators.

Parents are now warned that severe consequences await if they fail to comply with these standards.
