The Arab Parliament and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have openly criticized the UN Security Council’s (UNSC) failure to grant the State of Palestine full membership in the United Nations.

Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, President of the Arab Parliament, expressed his disapproval of the United States’ use of its veto power, which he termed as a violation of the legitimate Palestinian rights to state recognition and full UN membership.

In a statement released on Friday, Al-Asoumi emphasized the urgent need for the international community to fully enable the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights through the international recognition of the State of Palestine and the hoisting of the Palestinian flag within and outside the United Nations headquarters.

He urged the international community to take legal and historical responsibility to end the brutal occupation of Palestinian territories and achieve a final and just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Asoumi reaffirmed the Arab Parliament’s unwavering support for Palestine‘s legitimate rights on both regional and international levels.

In a similar vein, GCC Secretary-General Jasim Al-Badiwi condemned the US use of its veto in the Security Council as a setback in the efforts toward achieving fair and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

He reiterated the GCC’s steadfast support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Al-Badiwi called on the international community to act decisively and immediately to ensure recognition of the State of Palestine and enable the Palestinian people to attain their fundamental and legitimate rights by the UN resolutions and international law.

He also stressed the need for the Security Council to seriously reconsider international peace mechanisms to ensure the protection of people’s rights and maintain regional and global security and stability while urging all countries and international organizations to stand for justice and support efforts to restore rights and build a better future for all peoples in the region and the world.
