Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, stated that “as the anniversary of the brutal Israeli assault on Palestine approaches, we observe with concern Israel’s ongoing attempts to expand the scope of the conflict.”
During his speech at the 114th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council at the ministerial level, chaired by the UAE Minister of Economy Abdullah bin Touq and attended by Arab economic ministers, the Secretary-General noted, “This assault was not the first of its kind, but it was certainly the most violent, barbaric, and most detached from law, ethics, and humanity. We have all witnessed its atrocities and crimes.”
He explained that the real dangers of a regional war erupting are undeniable, which would undoubtedly have severe consequences on the region and the world, heavily impacting peoples striving for development and progress, pushing the region years back.
Aboul Gheit mentioned that the past period has been harsh on the Palestinian people, who have endured this tragedy and lived with its burdens as much as they can, enduring harsh conditions far beyond human capacity, patiently and nobly.
He continued that the Palestinian people’s faith in the justice of their cause remains unshaken, as they stand against the enemy’s bombs, marches, and missiles. This has all occurred amid international inability to stop the aggressor, who is sometimes even provided a safety net to continue atrocities without punishment.
The Secretary-General emphasized that statistics confirm that the volume of bombs and explosives dropped on the Gaza Strip exceeded tens of thousands of tons, far exceeding the nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II, resulting in substantial human and material losses that will not be easy to recover from.
RT has obtained a draft of the resolution to be issued at the 114th session of the Arab Economic and Social Council, held today in Cairo. The resolution includes a special clause to support the Palestinian economy and the Palestinian Authority amid the war faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank.
The resolution calls for the implementation of the emergency response plan prepared by the State of Palestine to address the consequences of the Israeli aggression on the State of Palestine, and the genocide committed by Israel in the Gaza Strip. It also calls on countries, organizations, development agencies, and relevant national and international funds to contribute to the financing and implementation of this plan, in coordination with the State of Palestine.
The Economic and Social Council of the Arab League has urged Arab countries to urgently support families affected by the Israeli aggression in Gaza and the West Bank by providing emergency aid, in coordination with the General Secretariat’s Social Affairs Sector and through bilateral agreements with the Ministry of Social Development.
