Jamal Rushdy, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the Arab League, stated that Ahmed Aboul Gheit took part in several events, including the opening of the third edition of the Arab Government Management Forum, organized by the UAE government in collaboration with the Arab Organization for Administrative Development under the theme “Arab Government Management and Artificial Intelligence”. He discussed the regional disparities in digitalization and technological transformation, highlighting the serious events that have had profound negative impacts on the region.
Aboul Gheit emphasized the importance of completing infrastructure and advancing education to meet the demands of data processing and localize artificial intelligence in Arab countries.
Regarding Arab cooperation in artificial intelligence, the Secretary touched on the efforts of the Arab League, including the establishment of the Arab Center for Artificial Intelligence and the work of the Arab AI team under the Council of Arab Ministers of Communications and Information, stressing the importance of solidarity and cooperation for expertise exchange and capacity building.
On AI governance, the Secretary-General mentioned that dealing with this technological shift is inevitable, given its rapid development and widespread use, but it must be approached cautiously due to significant risks in the absence of international regulatory controls.
The spokesperson also noted that the Secretary-General spoke in a main session of the summit alongside Jassem Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, about “Challenges and Future Opportunities in the Arab Region”. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the West’s initial misinterpretation of the war in Gaza and its exaggerated sympathy with the occupation, which encouraged Israel to commit crimes, before the West reconsidered its hasty judgment and sought to revive the two-state solution, emphasizing that what happened threatens a thousand-year confrontation and endangers peace agreements with Arab countries. Aboul Gheit warned that continued settlement would not kill the two-state solution as extremists think, and peace with Israel requires dismantling the settlements.
He stated that enhancing regional security fundamentally and urgently requires halting foreign interventions, especially Iranian interventions that have turned the Arab region into a stage for protecting their interests, emphasizing that sustainable peace also requires establishing a nuclear-free zone.
Rushdy reported that the Secretary-General met with Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of Iraqi Kurdistan, on the sidelines of the summit, where they discussed the developments in the Arab region and the Iranian attack on Erbil.
