The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, has issued a vehement condemnation of Israel’s recent airstrike on Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp. Characterizing the attack as a grave crime, Aboul Gheit emphasized that it adds to the ongoing series of offenses committed by the Israeli occupation in Gaza, asserting that the world’s conscience cannot remain silent in the face of such atrocities.
The Israeli airstrike, which took place on Tuesday, targeted residential buildings in the Jabalia camp in the northern part of the strip. Reports from the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) indicate that the attack involved six 2,000 lb bombs, resulting in the death or injury of approximately 400 people.
This condemnable incident follows a prior airstrike on October 17, in which Israel struck the Baptist Al-Ahli hospital in Gaza, causing the loss of at least 600 lives. The international community widely denounced this massacre.
Since October 7, Israel has continued its barrage on Gaza through relentless airstrikes, resulting in the tragic loss of 8,306 Palestinian lives, including 3,457 children. The devastating impact extends to the destruction of over half of the homes in Gaza, leaving 1.5 million Palestinians without shelter.
In addition to the military assault, Israel has imposed a comprehensive blockade on the 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, severely restricting access to essential resources such as food, water, power, and fuel. Despite global warnings of an impending humanitarian catastrophe, Israel has allowed only a limited amount of aid into the blockaded Palestinian territory.
The situation is further exacerbated in the occupied West Bank, where over 110 Palestinians have lost their lives due to Israeli raids and attacks by extremist settlers. The Arab League’s condemnation underscores the urgent need for international attention and intervention to address the escalating humanitarian crisis and the flagrant violations of human rights in the region.
