On Monday, during the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly held in New York, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas convened with his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
As reported by the Palestinian news agency “WAFA”, President Abbas informed President Tebboune about the latest political developments related to the Palestinian cause. Abbas particularly highlighted the aggressive practices by Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, emphasizing that these actions undermine the chances for peace and the two-state solution.
The two leaders delved into discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties between their nations and their fraternal peoples. They also touched upon various international and regional issues of mutual interest. President Abbas expressed gratitude towards Algeria for its unwavering stance in supporting the Palestinian cause in international forums.
For his part, President Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s solid support for the Palestinian issue and the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, emphasizing the pursuit of freedom and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The longstanding fraternal relationship between Palestine and Algeria is rooted in their shared experiences, common objectives, and mutual struggles. Historically, Algeria has been a robust advocate for the Palestinian cause in different international forums, and their meetings on such global platforms reinforce this stance.
The U.N. General Assembly serves as a focal point for world leaders to discuss international and bilateral matters, and the meeting between Presidents Abbas and Tebboune during this assembly reflects their continuous commitment towards regional stability and peace.
