Algeria & China Sign Digital Economy MoU

The President of Iraq Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid, met with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad on Thursday, May 16, 2024. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries across various fields of mutual interest, aiming to benefit their people and strengthen regional security and stability.

During the discussions, President Rashid praised the cooperative relationship between Iraq and Syria, especially in combating terrorism and enhancing border security. He underscored Iraq’s support for establishing peace and stability in Syria.

The talks also touched on broader regional developments. Both leaders stressed the importance of de-escalating crises and promoting security and stability through dialogue and respecting national sovereignty.

They emphasized the need for concerted efforts to halt aggression against Palestinians and end the war in Gaza. The Presidents urged the international community to support the Palestinian people’s right to their legitimate entitlements.

In attendance were several officials including Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Fouad Hussein, and from the Syrian side, Foreign Minister Dr. Faisal Mekdad, Deputy Foreign Minister Bassam Sabbagh, and Syria’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Hussam Edin Aala.

The meeting underscores a continued commitment between Iraq and Syria to work collaboratively on issues critical to their nations and the broader Middle East region.
