Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf emphasized the importance of achieving a peaceful solution to the crisis in Niger to avert potential escalation.

During his visit to the Ghanaian capital, Accra, at the conclusion of an African tour that also included Nigeria and Benin, Minister Ahmed Attaf met with Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo.

Attaf conveyed greetings from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune and delivered a message concerning the Niger crisis, along with prospects for intensifying unified efforts to establish peaceful resolutions that shield the nation and the region from potential escalation, according to the Algerian news agency.

President Akufo-Addo praised the significant role of Tebboune and his commendable efforts aimed at providing a tangible contribution to resolving the ongoing crisis in Niger.

He expressed anticipation for a future meeting between the two leaders in the near term, as reported by the agency.

The Algerian minister commenced an African tour on August 23, encompassing Nigeria, Benin, and Ghana, to address the situation in Niger.

Just yesterday, on Thursday, the Algerian Foreign Minister announced that his country will not tolerate any violations of democracy and the constitutional system in Niger.

He underscored that the ramifications of the Niger crisis far exceed the boundaries of the country, as he remarked.

Niger’s military personnel, on the morning of July 27, ousted President Mohamed Bazoum and imposed border closures and curfews.

Niger, a former French colony, remained one of the last allies of Western nations in the Sahel region. The country also possesses rich uranium reserves heavily relied upon by France.
