On Tuesday, the Somali Army took control of a vehicle loaded with weapons and other equipment belonging to the Al-Shabaab terrorist militia on the border between the Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle regions.
The Somali News Agency (SONNA) reported that army forces arrested several terrorists in the Mari Souley area following cleansing operations conducted over the past few days in areas within the two provinces.
This military success underscores the Somali government’s ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and restore peace and stability in the region.
The Somali Army has been engaged in a prolonged conflict with Al-Shabaab, an extremist group linked to Al-Qaeda, which has controlled parts of Somalia for over a decade. The group is known for its brutal tactics, including bombings, assassinations, and extortion, aiming to establish an Islamic state in Somalia.
The regions of Galgaduud and Middle Shabelle, where recent operations occurred, are strategic locations that have seen frequent clashes.
The Somali government, supported by international partners, has intensified its military efforts to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s strongholds and restore governance and security to areas long plagued by terrorism and instability.
