Iranian media revealed today, Sunday, that “Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, will travel to the Saudi capital, Riyadh, in the coming days.” The “Jadeh Iran” website reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian will travel to Riyadh in the coming days, indicating that the visit is scheduled to have a bilateral agenda.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry had announced several days ago that the embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Iran officially began its operations in Tehran last Sunday, corresponding to August 6 of this month.
In the same context, last Wednesday, the “IRNA” agency quoted an informed source, saying, “The Saudi Embassy in Tehran has effectively begun its activity in Iran, following recent months’ talks, and the resumption of relations between Iran and the Kingdom, facilitated by Chinese mediation.” The Iranian agency pointed out that “the embassy and the Iranian consulate in Riyadh began their official activities on June 6 of last month as well.”
The foreign ministers, Iran’s Hossein Amir Abdollahian and Saudi’s Faisal bin Farhan, had met on April 6, last year, in Beijing, after Chinese-led mediation to normalize relations between Tehran and Riyadh following years of estrangement. At that time, they agreed to begin arrangements for opening both countries’ embassies.
Saudi Arabia and Iran announced in March of last year their agreement to resume diplomatic relations after years of severed ties. The consensus between the two countries was facilitated by China, which played a vital role in its completion and was one of the signatories to the joint statement of the two states
