The Somali National Army has killed 18 terrorists from the Al- Shabab militias in a military operation in the Lower Shebelle region in the southwest of the country, the Somali news agency reported on Sunday.

In an official statement, the army revealed that a planned military operation was carried out in the areas of Balad Al-Amin and Balad Al-Karim within Lower Shebelle, following information that elements from the Al-Shabaab terrorist militias were secretly gathering at farms in these regions.

Officers of the national army confirmed to the state media the death of 18 terrorists. They also affirmed that the armed forces completely took control over the areas where the operation was conducted.

They are currently engaged in sweeping operations to track down the remnants of the terrorist enemy.

Earlier on Saturday, the Somali Ministry of Defence announced that 23 al-Shabab terrorists in the southern part of the country were dead.

“The 23 terrorists, including two commanders, were eliminated. Targets included a checkpoint, a garage for gathering explosives, and an administrative office used by leaders,” the ministry said in a brief statement
