Archaeologists under the guidance of the National Heritage Institute in Tunisia have unveiled an exciting discovery – five gold coins believed to be from the third century BC.

These precious artifacts were unearthed during excavation activities at a temple located in the outskirts of Carthage.

The Tunisian Ministry of Culture released a statement on Friday highlighting the significance of this find. The gold coins provide a glimpse into the opulence of that historical era and reaffirm the cultural importance of Carthage.

In the course of their excavation endeavors, the dedicated team of historical and archaeological researchers also uncovered a series of votive monuments and urns.

Remarkably, these containers held the remains of animals, infants, and premature babies, which were offered as sacred gifts to the deities. Additionally, tombstones were among the other intriguing discoveries made during their mission.
