Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa’s Belgian arm, has halted its flights to Angola due to the closure of Niger’s airspace last Sunday, according to an airline representative.

Previously, the airline connected Brussels to Luanda, Angola, and Kinshasa, Congo, through a triangle flight.

Meanwhile, this service will be direct between Brussels and Kinshasa, reducing fuel consumption and flight duration for both crew and travelers.

The Niger airspace shutdown has necessitated longer routes, adding 1.5 to 3.5 hours to Brussels Airlines’ trips to Africa.

This adjustment, up for review every week and set to continue until at least August 26, impacts roughly 30 out of the 290 passengers per journey.

The airline has assured that those affected will have the option to fly to Luanda via Lufthansa through Frankfurt Airport.
