The native translation feature has finally been introduced to Gmail for Android and iOS devices.

This function, which was available on the desktop version, now automatically detects the language of an email and translates it.

Google revealed that this feature had been widely requested by mobile users. Previously, users had to rely on methods like copying and pasting content into Google Translate or using Google Lens via a screenshot to translate emails.

To translate a message on mobile, users can simply click the “Translate” option found in the three-dot menu at the upper-right corner of the email.

They have the flexibility to select their desired output language in the settings, enabling a prompt to appear when the email’s content doesn’t match their Gmail display language.

If desired, users can choose to disable translation for specific languages, which is especially useful for multilingual individuals.

The rollout of the translation integration will occur gradually for Android users over the next two weeks, with iOS devices receiving the update starting on 21 August.
