Tunisia’s Minister of Economy and Planning, Samir Saïed, met with Arnaud Peral, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Tunisia, to review the ongoing collaboration between the nation and the global organization.
Their discussions centered on technical support programs, ongoing projects, especially those focusing on human development, support for entrepreneurship benefiting youth and women, poverty alleviation, and various other initiatives.
According to a statement released by Tunisia’s Ministry of Economy and Planning today, both parties reviewed Tunisia’s progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
They also highlighted upcoming programs that align with Tunisia’s strategic vision for 2035 and its development plan for 2023-2025, which aims to solidify Tunisia’s position as a leader in Africa in this sector.
A major point of consensus during the meeting was the significance of activating the recently approved Employment and Youth Fund, developed in partnership with the United Nations.
Both sides stressed the fund’s vital role in materializing economic empowerment programs, promoting entrepreneurship for youth and women, generating new job opportunities, and integrating into the national economic cycle. The fund is especially geared towards spurring development in Tunisia’s interior regions and districts.
Furthermore, the two parties underscored the importance of mobilizing necessary financial resources for this fund in collaboration with bilateral and multilateral partners.
This approach ensures the fund’s sustainability and effectiveness in achieving its desired goals. They also emphasized the importance of providing the necessary training and support to beneficiaries to guarantee the success and continuity of the initiatives.
