In response to the recent coup in Niger and escalating tensions in the region, French Airlines announced the suspension of its flights to Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso today.
The airline stated that it has suspended all flights to and from Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, Bamako in Mali, and Niamey in Niger until August 11, due to the closure of Niger’s airspace by the military council.
A spokesperson for the French airline expressed concerns that there may be longer flight times at airports located south of the Sahara.
Earlier on Monday, the military council in Niger declared the closure of its airspace until further notice.
In light of the situation, France has issued a warning to its citizens in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, urging them to exercise extreme caution and avoid traveling to these countries.
French nationals residing in these regions are also advised to stay away from gatherings and crowded areas.
This decision by French Airlines comes as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of passengers and reflects the growing concerns over the stability of the region.
