The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have declared their complete control over Central Darfur state in western Sudan. However, the Sudanese army has contested this claim, stating the presence of civilian casualties and accusing the RSF of using civilians as human shields.

In the wake of the conflict, the United Nations Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS) has expressed deep concerns over the severe impact of the clashes between the RSF, supported by Arab militias, and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) on civilians in the Darfur region.

UNITAMS has strongly condemned the indiscriminate targeting of civilian populations and public facilities by the RSF and its allied militias, particularly in the locality of Sirba, as well as other incidents in Nyala and Zalingei. The mission’s grave concern lies in the safety and well-being of civilians who are caught in the crossfire of the conflict.

The situation in Darfur remains tense, and international attention is focused on finding ways to protect civilians and bring stability to the region.
