At least six people have been killed, and around 30 others remain missing due to mudslides in the mountainous Racha region of northwestern Georgia.

In two separate statements, the Georgian Interior Ministry reported the discovery of two bodies following the devastating landslide that occurred on Thursday in the area renowned for its resorts. Additionally, four more bodies were found today, Friday.

The municipality of Oni and rescue teams continue to tirelessly work in the disaster-stricken area. So far, six bodies have been found during the search operations.

Infrastructure Minister, Irakli Karseladze, who inspected the site, reported the disappearance of 35 individuals. Georgian media quoted him saying, “At the moment, there are 35 people that we are unable to contact.”

The mudslide occurred near a hotel in Shovi, a small tourist resort located in the mountains of the Racha region. The disaster caused extensive damage to houses, power lines, roads, and bridges.

The Interior Ministry stated that search and rescue operations, involving approximately 400 firefighters, rescuers, and police personnel, are ongoing for the second day.
