In a recent announcement on Wednesday, the Tunisian Presidency declared the end of Najla Bouden Romdhane’s term as Prime Minister. President Kais Saied has appointed Ahmed El-Hachani as her successor.
During the swearing-in ceremony at Carthage Palace on Tuesday evening, President Saied supervised the oath-taking of Ahmed El-Hachani, who previously served as the Director-General of Human Resources at the Central Bank of Tunisia.
Addressing El-Hachani, Saied emphasized the significant challenges ahead in safeguarding the nation, maintaining peace, and achieving justice.
El-Hachani acknowledged the responsibility and vowed to uphold the will of the people, pursue long-awaited justice, and ensure national dignity without regression.
The appointment of Bouden as prime minister occurred approximately two years ago, following the dismissal of former Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi.
Her government had been supporting an economic reform program to secure a $1.9 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
However, the Tunisian president opposed certain reforms, particularly those involving cuts to food and energy subsidies, expressing concerns about potential social tensions.
