The Kingdom of Morocco has expressed its deep condolences to Algeria, following a wave of devastating forest fires that claimed the lives of dozens of people.
In a statement issued by the Moroccan Foreign Ministry, it was stated: “The Kingdom of Morocco is deeply saddened by the forest fires that have broken out in several regions of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria. On this painful occasion, the Kingdom of Morocco offers its heartfelt condolences for the losses in lives these fires have caused, and sincere wishes for a speedy recovery for those injured.”
On Monday, Algeria reported at least 35 fatalities, including 10 soldiers, resulting from the forest fires. However, by Tuesday, the Algerian Ministry of Interior confirmed that they had gained control over most of the fire outbreaks across the country.
Interior Minister Ibrahim Murad stated, “Yesterday (Monday), there were 97 fire outbreaks, and today (Tuesday), we have recorded only four outbreaks.” In statements published by official media, Murad explained, “Without the heroic work of the army forces, civil protection services, security services, and forest services, the losses would have been much greater.”
The Minister affirmed that entire villages were rapidly engulfed by the flames due to high wind speeds and the spread of the fires.
Morocco’s message of solidarity further strengthens the ties between the two nations, emphasizing their unity in facing such devastating natural disasters.
