Executive Director of the World Food Programme, Cindy McCain, Calls for Increased Funding for Humanitarian Response in Sudan

Cindy McCain, the Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), has appealed for an increase in funding for the humanitarian response in Sudan, noting that the crisis in Sudan has impacted hunger and migration across West and Central Africa.

The UN official warned in a statement that the repercussions would be devastating for peace and stability in a region already facing severe climatic fluctuations, security instability, and economic decline. She pointed out that the international community is at a decision point and must act now to prevent Chad from becoming another victim of the crisis that has swept the region.

She indicated that the needs in Chad are increasing, and the funding does not keep up with the progress. She added that the program urgently needs $157 million to reach those in need.
